The knowing

1 John 5:14-15 NASB This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (15) And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

Notice the word know occurs in that passage a couple of times.  We are supposed to get to the place where know that he hears us, not just be playing a hoping and guessing game.

Ephesians 5:17 NASB So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

So we are told to understand and know what the will of God is, for each situation, and for our life.  To not do so is considered foolish.

Ephesians 1:9-12 NASB He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him (10) with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him (11) also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, (12) to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory.

The Lord works all things according to the counsel of His will.  He works through us and requires our cooperation as He does not violate our free will.  It is not all up to God.

Hosea 4:6 NASB My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

For those who reject the Lord’s counsel the only recourse is destruction.  This is not about losing your eternal life.  Its simply means that if we don’t heed the Lord’s warnings we are likely to walk into the snare of the enemy and its the enemy who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

John 10:10 NASB “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
